Decades of human neglect, inaction, irresponsibility and forces of nature have seriously degraded the Indian River Lagoon estuary system that encompasses 156 miles of the Florida coast from Ponce Inlet near Daytona Beach south to Jupiter Inlet. The Indian River Lagoon is one of the largest and most diverse estuary systems in the US, and includes 4,300 species of plants and animals.

Playing the Lagoonology game involves four teams that represent major Lagoon stressors: Agriculture, Community, Business and Recreation. The teams are given assets they gain or lose during game play. Losses and gains are determined by reading impact cards.
